NEET 2016 Cut Off Marks- To be eligible for the exams, a student should be at least higher secondary pass with subjects like Physics, Biology, Chemistry and biotechnology. An aspirant should be a national of India or someone living abroad with Indian nationality can also apply. Minimum marks required in 12th class for students are 50%, 45% and 40% for General, SC and ST categories.

Surprisingly the result of NEET 2016 was declared a day before on 16th August and according to papers/source, it was supposed to be out on 17th August.  Now the list of cut off will be out and according to marks and the ranks, students will take the colleges according to their preferences. Cut off is generally released by the organizing committee keeping in the mind number of seats, availability, total number of student who gave the test. Cut off is out for different categories as well like the general students will have a different cut off list, whereas ST, SC, and OBC will have their own cutoff marks. However looking at the previous records mostly the cut off is approximately 35-40% for SC, ST and OBC students. Toughest is for general category students were cut off goes as high as 50-60%. The cutoff marks are going higher and higher every year as the competition is paramount in these national level exams. A total number of students taking this test is also increasing year by year making it extremely thorny to secure a seat.  Mainly the top 15% are allowed to appear for the counseling.  For general category last year the minimum marks to qualify for counseling were 695

For example, in the case of last year’s AIPMT, the cutoff score for the unreserved category was 695.

The pattern was pen and paper however in future there are rumors that government is planning for an online test. It is also said that the negotiations and discussion are on between governments, CBSE and Prometric, ETS and other IT and test providing companies. This will be a milestone step as this will neglect the chances of forgery and leak papers. The main hurdle is to design and implement a user-friendly or student friendly interface and platform.

Questions: Multiple choice 180 questions

The wrong answer will be you a -1 mark

Right answer will lend you +4 in your bucket

A different division of Questions: – 45 question each in Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, and Botany.

Scoring Methodology

Most commonly used percentile system which is followed by most of the standardized national test, NEET follows the same. The percentile based methodology was adopted to derive the cutoff score of NEET.

As most, the people are aware of the fact that this year the organizing body has allowed the states to have their own control over the test. Some of the private and government are not accepting the score of NEET, but in future NEET will be accepted in the admission process of the each college whether being private, public, government etc.

 Understand the scoring in NEET 

NEET 2016 Tie Breaking:

Score scheme and what happens when the score of two candidates are same, hence a procedure has been designed.

This is a very interesting situation as most of the student’s doesn’t pay much attention to these smaller details, but by keeping this set of rules this will help to break the tiebreaker and move up in the rankings.

The Situation: Same and Equal marks, Tie Breaker.

There are different pointers which are set if in case the marks are similar.

First and far the most important mark in Biology, then the second is in Chemistry, then the priority is given to the students who have the less wrong answer or negative marks, lastly, the students with older age are preferred.

Closing rank- As the name suggests the closing rank will be the last rank in which the seat was allotted.
